My Experience
Mochi's Dreamland was made during the MassDiGI XP2 program which is a highly competitive program in which recent graduates are chosen and then contracted to create a game during the 3 month program. During this program I worked as the programming lead for my team as well as an associate producer.
Before we arrived at our current game concept we went through a number of other concepts and designs. It took a while for our team to find our first fun, we prototyped two different concepts into dirty builds but neither of them achieved the "first fun" we were looking for, eventually we landed on the concept we have today. Having to scrap two concepts and fully functional dirty builds wasn't totally unexpected but it meant we had less time to develop the game loops of our next concept which ended up being a huge exercise with scope. We managed to keep our scope within our time frame though and will be launching soon.
